League constitution   Message 49147Wed, 15 May 2019 09:34

From the Istmian League website. Nothing as yet posted about this on the Southern League website.

"The season is barely over, and already you've been inundating us with messages about when the new one will start! Well here are a few dates for your diaries.

First and foremost, on Sunday 19th May we will find out our constitution for the forthcoming season. The FA have taken the unusual step of announcing this via the marvellous Non League Paper, so get out and grab a copy on Sunday morning to find out who has been placed in which league.

Of course, the NLP will be bringing you the constitution for the entire country, but if you just want to know who is in the Bostik League we'll bring you that news here on Sunday morning- hopefully in time for it to go out in our weekly round up email at 9AM!

Next, when will the new fixtures be released? We have to be guided by the FA on that, but the answer is 'Mid-July.' Once we have a firm date, we'll share it and you can set your alarm to find out whether you'll get an early trip to the seaside and a Christmas derby.

Finally, the start date for the new season is August 10th- however that date comes with a caveat. Our Premier Division will kick off on 10th, all other three Divisions a week later on 17th. The reason for this is that the 10th is the date of the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round- any of our Step Four clubs who don't feature in this may be able to kick off their League Cup campaigns if they wish!

So we'll see you back here on Sunday morning- bright and early!"

A tale of two seasons   Message 49083Wed, 24 April 2019 11:18

We have played 87 games since returning to the Premier level.

The first season and a half, 66 games, saw constant changes of playing personnel, no continuity and chaotic performances ranging from occasionally being pretty good to often being embarrassingly poor. This has cost the Club money - many gave up as it seemed there would be no end to the instability.

But what a change there has been since we finally assembled a skilful and hard working group of players that, crucially, have matured into an effective and coherent squad.

Compare and contrast these stats:-

2017/18 and 2018/2019 (first 20 games)

66 Games
22 Won
8 Drawn
36 Lost
74 Points
1.1 Points/game

115 Goals for
168 Goals against
-53 Goal difference

2018/19 (last 21 games)

21 Games
11 Won
6 Drawn
4 Lost
39 Points
1.9 Points/game

39 Goals for
21 Goals against
+18 Goal difference

To extrapolate these numbers to the 41 games played to date in the current season ...

With the various old squads, we'd be in 20th place on 46 points with a -33 goal difference. We would be relying on winning at Weymouth and Walton losing at Merthyr on Saturday to avoid relegation.

With the current squad we'd be in 5th place on 76 points with a +35 goal difference. So, in the play offs!

--------------------

While it's a shame that it took so long, we are back on the right track. A big thanks to all - on the pitch and off - who have made this happen.

Let's test Weymouth to the utmost this Saturday, have a good break and return in July with the same commitment and focus that has been on show since last December. C'mon the Boro'!

CONCACAF Nations League   Message 48925Fri, 29 March 2019 08:07

Elliot Bonds and his team-mates have qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first ever time by finishing 7th in the qualifiers - and will play in League B of the nation's league... They missed-out on finishing in a League A position where they would have played the US & Mexico & the other 'hex' members by 2 goals scored - it was that tight!

Well played to them!

Dave Tarpey is back in the game, on loan from Barnet to Woking, after a long lay off and injury!

Dave was truly one of Farnborough's 'legends'.

Good luck Dave, and hope all goes well for you.

As a bonus, hopefully, I'd like to think it means we keep Reggie for a while longer!!

Dorchester parking   Message 48474Mon, 14 January 2019 18:05

Last season's game was a night match too, just before Christmas on a Monday. I pulled into Tesco Carpark and was accosted by a man in a hi vis jacket who demanded £2 from me.

Now I am not a mean man, but 13 months later I am still wondering if it was a chancer who disappeared to the pub at 7.45 to spend his ill gotten gains or whether the money went to the club... If Tesco, I should have demanded club card points!

Also, I recall getting the worst hot chocolate I have ever tasted once inside, so drinkers beware! Mind you, it wasn't as bad as the football - hoping for better.

See you tomorrow...

Not too much damage from today's results.
Wins for Wimborne and Chesham and a draw for Hartley, so we are 12th.

Basingstoke drop in to the bottom three!

Still only four points between us and the third relegation spot though!!

Need to get something out of Tuesday's match at Dorchester.

Nice gentle Tuesday evening drive!! Lets hope they are knackered after their efforts at Barnet today.

FaST minibus to Dorchester 15/01/19   Message 48416Wed, 02 January 2019 11:05

A few fans have been enquiring if we are running a minibus to Dorchester on Tuesday 15th January. As minibuses have been making a sizable loss due to poor take-up, FaST had decided not to run this as it's midweek but having listened to our regular customers, we are hopeful of filling the bus.
This minibus will only run if we have a minimum of 10 supporters booked on and paid by Saturday. £15 for FaST members, £17 for non members. Please see Sue Reason in the club shop.

Blame Game    Message 47960Sun, 11 November 2018 11:36

After a busy week, I sat down and read that article about Spencer Day slating the personnel he put in place for yet another defeat. Normally the buck stops with the manager and if things don't improve a decision is made for the good of the club.

In the PL it was well documented how toxic the environment got at Arsenal towards the end of Wenger's reign. Fans were divided between his great achievements and argued that to some extent he was still doing a good job. Others saw the obvious fall in standards and that he just wasn't getting the required performances out of his players. He wielded a lot of power at the club but not total power. In the end the hierarchy saw the empty seats and knew a change was needed. The fans are more united when it comes to Spencer's lack of performance.

Of course Spencer has nobody to answer to. Even if there was 2 men and a dog at the game he would still carry on doing the same thing. I used to say to my mate that at least we had a local football club to meet at and watch some level of football. However, when players are ditched so regularly, how does a fan feel a connection to a team of players? Do the honourable thing Spencer. You will get more respect for it than dragging the club deeper into the mire.

I had a dream   Message 47649Sat, 13 October 2018 12:15

Dreams are often ridiculous, sometimes funny.

I dreamed last night that we introduced a new player to the crowd named Rex Fontana featuring his nickname 'King of Spin'

He was a diminutive, argumentative octogenarian and was sent off by the female referee in the first minute. He was promptly helped through the 'revolving door'

That would be something of a record.

I see from the official site there is a financial inducement (up to £250) offered to individuals if they can recruit sponsors for the club.

It would be good if 'Winalot' was displayed on the players' shirts.

Southampton declined a real opportunity for this particular rewarding sponsorship because they thought it would be 'taking the piss'. It seems to me they were 'barking up the wrong tree' :-)

Bulls Issue Banning Order   Message 45975Fri, 23 February 2018 16:27

http://www.herefordfc.co.uk/statement-bulls-issue-banning-or der/

Quote:
23rd February 2018 by Jamie Griffiths - Club News

Hereford FC has today confirmed that a male supporter has been banned from attending matches at Edgar Street for 12 months.

The ban relates to incidents with supporters releasing smoke bombs during the match against Farnborough on 3rd February 2018.

The individual has been contacted in writing and notified of the reasons for the decision. As investigations by the police continue, officers are also planning on speaking to a number of other supporters who are believed to have been involved in the incident.

Hereford FC regret having to issue this banning order, however bringing pyrotechnics to any Hereford FC fixture is totally unacceptable and the club will act in a similar way for any future incidents.

Finally, the club would like to thank supporters for their help and assistance in identifying those involved in these incidents.

Well done to Hereford. I'm assuming the supporter has not been named as police enquiries are not complete.
