Tom Broadbent on Football Focus   Message 44197Sat, 07 October 2017 16:47

It's worth going to iPlayer to see a featurette on him (fast forward to very near the end).

No mention of us, but...still worthwhile.

Or access via this link.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41532812

Funny para from a Guardian feature:

t was only two years ago that Broadbent started playing semi-professionally, when he joined Farnborough, who were in the seventh tier at the time. "Up until then I'd just been playing in the army and a little bit of county league with my mates, just for the love of playing. I wasn't bothered about getting money," he says. "I remember the manager at Farnborough wasn't even sure he would sign me. He did a Google search and said: 'You've never been anywhere.'"

Dorchester should be interesting   Message 44038Tue, 26 September 2017 23:56

After a disastrous start to the season, Dorchester have changed managers. The new boss is none other than Steve Thompson, who was a formidable opponent of ours, well FTFC, on the pitch at Slough, Wycombe, Yeovil and Woking.

Having relinquished his Assistant Manager role at Woking, his first match in charge of the Magpies was a 1-0 win at Dunstable - no great shakes as Dunstable are so weak. No doubt he'll be looking to make his mark (again) at Cherrywood, so we'll have to be on our toes to get the result we want.

My prediction?

1. We're likely to concede as the defence and the defensive midfield hasn't been sorted out (12 goals conceded in 8 games is not something to be proud of).
2. Do we have better strikers and attacking midfielders than Dorchester? I suspect we do, but we need to be totaly focused and organised to get the 3 points.

2-1 to Boro' for me.

Boro's rent & rates relief to continue?   Message 43526Mon, 14 August 2017 11:16

I spotted this press release, which confirms RBC's agreement to extend rent and rates relief to Aldershot Town over the next 2 years, albeit on a reducing scale:-

http://www.thenationalleague.org.uk/rushmoor-borough-council -award-financial-support-t-38455

RBC's statement mentions "both clubs", so I'm wondering if a similar deal has been struck with Farnborough FC?

O/T Get Hampshire has died   Message 43434Tue, 08 August 2017 17:11

Get Hampshire, the internet presence of the News & Mail, has ceased to exist. The print edition cannot be long for this world either, the way print sales are going. Weekly circulation was down to 5,457 copies at the end of 2016, a near 18% decline year on year.

The remaining NE Hampshire content has been folded into the Get Surrey site (aka The Surrey Advertiser). At least coverage of Farnborough FC on the new site is consistent with the old one i.e. there isn't any.

Farnborough videos   Message 43252Fri, 28 July 2017 15:19

K's fan here who has just been converting an old VHS of a game vs Farnborough from 1989 produced by Trevor Baker.

My copy was a bit dodgy with a lot of jumps and flickers because of the actual tape itself rather than the original recording being dodgy so I was wondering if a)Trevor Baker is still around at the club b) if anyone had a good copy of that game c) if anyone has any other Farnborough v K's games on video. If anyone has and is interested I would be happy to convert the VHS tape to DVD and send you back a copy (along with the original VHS).

Players   Message 43205Thu, 20 July 2017 11:45

With the squad so light it got me looking around various forums and footy sites to see what certain clubs and players are doing etc. Though over the years I have become less familiar with the non league scene as I once was it does seem that there are less and less decent players available at this level, the the gulf between the finances available at conference level and above is massive, and the parity of what clubs are paying from step 7 downwards meaning I don't think players are that bothered about playing at a higher level these days.

Maybe we put all of our faith in the academy and focus on that for the next few years. My only fear being I think that was the idea in 2011 when Haylock was manager, we had some decent players then too (Callum Cobb etc) but got battered until we shelled some cash out on some older heads. We're not the only club in this position this year, but SD has a hell of a job on his hands these next three weeks

Supporters match Over 30s vs. Under 30s   Message 42935Sat, 13 May 2017 21:33

Boro fans! Carl Dugmore is wishing to arrange a friendly match for Farnborough supporters. Two team, under 30s versus over 30s... No actual players or academy players, just supporters. Bit of fun and the match all being well will be on a Friday night. If you fancy it, please comment below stating unders team or overs team.
I'll also ask the club about a potential friendly with the players, playing one team each half - no harm in asking.
