The lack of nous in midfield lost the game. On the front foot, I lost count of the number of routine passes to Cureton and Coles that were misdirected, resulting in lost possession.

Going backwards, the misdirected passes from our midfield hurt our defenders, who did a good job in putting a blanket over Royston's attackers.

The only goal, which was nicely worked in the end, resulted from a free kick that was of poor quality, but Regis kicked air instead of the ball when attempting to make a routine clearance and Royston took full advantage of a defence that had been turned around unexpectedly. Hey ho, stuff happens.

Although we played most of the game treating the ball like a hot potato (Nic being a notable exception to this), the Royston keeper had to earn his corn, making two very fine saves when we were odds-on to score.

In positional terms, I wasn't too happy that we didn't press their right back. The only time he had to put out his cigar and get out of his deckchair we were very unlucky not to score.

So, a disappointing result against a team that are a cut above St Neots. Hopefully lessons will have been learned and, if they haven't, I'll provide two clues - Nic is an excellent left winger and John is probably the best right wingback in this league. The job of the midfielders is to win possession and feed them. The rest will take care of itself.
