Roger Pierce   Message 50682Mon, 03 February 2020 20:05  Go to next message

It has been announced this afternoon that Roger Pierce is retiring at the end of the season, after working with Farnborough for the last 20 years and serving as kitman.

The backroom staff sometimes go unnoticed, but their services keep the team running, and they deserve respect for doing what they do.

The club will be holding a testimonial on Sunday 3 May 2020. This will involve a game between Spencer Day XI and Roger Pierce XI, and both teams will work with current players and players from the past.

Truly the end of an era and its genuinely sad to see such a stand-up guy retire, however does this mean the club cat retires as well?

Wow, that really is a big blow to the Club!!

People like Roger are the backbone to any organisation, and their vast unseen amount of work is what makes everything tick.

Players, Managers, Directors, all come and go in time, but the die hard mainstays, and supporters, are always there.

Whoever takes on the Kit Man Role from Roger will have an enormous task, and standard, to follow!!

I'm sure none of us realise the amount of time and dedication put in to ensure kit is washed and presented ready for the next game!

Thanks for all you have done for Farnborough Football, in all it's guises, Roger, and good luck in your well deserved retirement.

Life at Boro matches will not be the same without your input, and you are more than welcome to come and sit up here with us oldies at any time!!

Best wishes from everyone at the Boro.

Doing kits is a brilliant service. But as well as that, it is the rest of the backroom staff that make things happen at not just this club, at any club.

As I said, they deserve respect for what they do, because I think some of their work is massively underappreciated.
