Players leaving Message 50205 | Sun, 17 November 2019 17:38 |
Two more players left the club today having been released.
Charlie Ten Grotenhuis
Mitchal Gough
I feel they're dropping like flies at this rate, what do we do?
So far we've had:
Charlie TG
Mitchal Gough
Marc Charles Smith
Chris Flood
And that's just this season!
Also not to forget that CTG joined us just 3 weeks ago, and now he's being released???
Something doesn't add up here.

This has been happening for last few seasons.
The budget disappears around Christmas and players that arrive during preseason tend to be released..
Maybe it improve if the club could try and harness a cup run in the fa competitions that provides decent prize money..
Failing that, sign a better balanced squad to start with.
That doesnt happen and we will see another 70 odd players through the revolving door

We're already losing some talented players, and there is no way we can afford to lose any more. People like Connor and Reggie and Liam are integral to the squad and I doubt we would lose them, but if we did, then we would have a huge problem on our hands.

Tom, as was mentioned earlier, this pattern of player turnover has been going on for several seasons now, and doesn't ever look like changing.
It's a Management style of 'I don't know how to deal with it, lets throw it away and start again'.
Keep repeating the same mistakes and never learning, but I know best!
It's my Company anyway, and I'm in charge!! despite what is reported)
I also get the feeling that opinions from players who have played at higher levels, and coaches, does not go down too well either, which doesn't help!!
So what is the answer?
Well in most other Clubs heads would have rolled a long long time ago, but this is a very different scenario, that doesn't seem to appear anywhere else, except maybe in a Glen Tamplin world, and there's no way I would ever wish that upon Farnborough!!
We've been in a similar situation with Westley remember, so we have to put up with what we have.
Options? Walk away, which so many have already done, or stay and accept that things will never change, and just enjoy a game of football on a Saturday.
There are still a few of us that care enough to stay around, because we love OUR club, and in the off chance of a miracle happening, but it's an ageing and decreasing band!
We make our points of view known, but it only helps to relieve the frustration really, no one really listens, or seems to care, from above!!
You get the impression that it's shut up and be grateful, but why should we??

Well said Bob. For many years I used to go to all home games and many away games (when not travelling on business) but over the last few seasons it has become harder to turn up each week not knowing the names / new faces playing that particular week for the Boro. The club has no real chance of building back up regular attendances whilst it continues with such a high turnover of players and lack of any progress in the cup competitions each season.

I am very sad to write this but when somebody like me, who has watched the club since 1985, decides enough is enough, the club has a real problem. I watched Boro home and away and rarely missed a game. I got very involved with the Club at one point, doing raffles and running quizzes. I helped to start FaST and Farnborough FC was my passion.
However when I come to a game and there are 6 different players from the week before and I only recognise 2 players on the pitch, and this happens week after week, the fire in your soul slowly dies. I came to the first game of this season and it was great to catch up with everyone but after I got home I realised that I had spent 80% of my time with my back to the pitch (nothing entertaining to see out there) as I was talking with people. The game (what I saw of it) was dire and I felt no connection to the team at all. It was a sad realisation.
Maybe it is because I have supported the Club through thick and thin with the associated highs and lows, that the current regime's attitude to the fans bears such a stark contrast to what we used to have. It is sucking the lifeblood (the fans) out of the Club.
I am now a season ticket holder at Brentford (where I first started watching football in the 60's) and look forward to every game. It also costs me about £13 a game compared to Boro's £10 senior rate and I know where I am getting better value for money. It truly saddens me to write this but I can be sure that I am not the only established fan who feels like this.

But this is a complete myth Linda. From this Saturday's starting lineup, only two players didn't start a match last season, Bradley Keetch and Jordan Allowade-Williams.
The management re-engaged every one of last seasons players, two of whom got moves to higher clubs, and a few decided that travelling to matches as far as Truro, Tiverton, Taunton, Western etc etc was just too much and moved back to Isthmian territory.
We've brought in exciting talent in the form of Jordan and Malakai to team up with the existing talents of Reggie,Connor, AJ, John Oyenuga, Tom, and many more.
So I'm sorry you feel you need to go elsewhere to get a football fix after being such a great servant to the club, but please don't say the players are unfamiliar or dull.

Sorry Phil but I wasn't referring to this season but the revolving door policy last season. That was when I decided to go back to my roots for football.

Hi Linda, good to hear from you again, and we do miss you and Andy at the Boro.
The 18 yarders section is very sparse these days. The reasons for which are many and varied but, regrettably, there is some merit in what you say from seasons past, re the recruitment/retention ( some call it the revolving door!!) policy which drove many supporters away!
Why it happens, or for what reasons, are a mystery to everyone outside the inner sanctum, and the question you used to hear most matchdays was "who we got out there to day then?" "Who's number 2,6 or whatever?"
It's very wearing on supporters, and it showed by the downturn in support.
Saying that though, I have to say that this season has been a lot better overall, so far!!, and there have been just a trickle of players here today and gone tomorrow!!
There have been some good updates from time to time by JR, Spencer's No 2, and they are always welcome, which is good, but we get very little PR in between, and that's when rumours/stories start and supporters make up there own agendas.
Not good for a 'CLUB' perspective.
Everything is geared to Twitter and Facebook which, to my mind, can be very dangerous places, but that's another story!!
I think the 'Club' aspect disappeared a long time ago!!
Anyway, thanks for all you did for Farnborough and FaST in particular, and hope you enjoy your time at Brentford.
Lets hope we get to meet again sometime.
All the best to you and Andy.
