Thanks for reminding us Brian, of a time when we all had hair and smaller waistlines!!

Those pictures should be hung up in the bar, as a reminder of a time when Club and supporters WORKED AS ONE to achieve something as huge as, actually building a stand extension!!

Remember all those huge fund raising events, car raffles etc, to help pay for it?

The Architecture, design, planning and structure were all done by professionals of course, but the bulk of the work was done by a huge band of supporters.

Remember the chain gang style of lifting those b****y heavy concrete beams in to place? The purchase, dismantle, and repaint of hundreds of old seats from Coventry City's Highfield road ground?

The hand digging of footings, and the mixing and pouring of concrete for terraces and perimeter posts etc.

Thousand of hours, given up gladly, and fortunes raised to pay for it, BECAUSE IT WAS OUR CLUB!!!

I remember on occasions we even had players like Jamie Horton, coming down to do basic brickwork etc., all because they loved the Club and appreciated what the supporters were doing!!

It was a time also when supporters were encouraged, involved in the Club and appreciated, something the current regime seems to have forgotten, or isn't interested in, sadly!!

Hopefully it will come again, when times eventually change!!!

Hope I'm around to see it!

I believe it was about 1993, 25 years ago. We certainly had a good crew of about 30/40 supporters that would turn up whatever the weather. They would help at the club after a days work and also on a Sunday. I remember one time, we laid 600 tons of concrete by wheelbarrow on the MRE, Jamie Horton used to do his fair share of the work when he was available. We must not forget Geoff Woods who used to be our 'site foreman', good days with great camaraderie. The Directors of the club also helped when they could, everyone then was all in it together.

Last line says it all Brian "everyone then was all in it together", it was A CLUB!!!
We don't have a Club today!!

Today we have a reasonably good set of players that turn out each week for Farnborough F.C., not always the same players, but reasonable all the same, and people that pay to enter to watch each match.

There are a few well meaning volunteers that do some excellent work, and some great work behind the scenes in obtaining sponsorship which probably keeps things alive.

Correlation/connection between "club", players and supporters is minimal, and attendances have slumped as a consequence, but what is more galling is that no one seems to be able, or willing, to bring it all back together again!

Maybe they don't know how to? Maybe they don't care? Who knows?

Lets hope the good times will return sometime in the future!!

( I nearly said one day!!, but no!! )

Very, very proud to see my Dad (now 86) in those pictures and to have the honour of sitting with him and Bob in that section of the stand whenever I can make it.

Not only did those fellas put their considerable time, hearts and soul into improving the club's facilities, there was also money put in without any expectation of any payback - just for the love of the club.

Thanks chaps.

Well said Bob.Good old days when supporters felt part of the club. You won't remember this as it was a very long time ago, but I recall bringing to you at the old tea bar two large tea urns which the company I worked for discarded when we moved offices in London hoping this would be of use to the club and were accepted with extreme thanks at the time. Then there was the feeling the club and supporters were pulling in the same direction. Raffles and other fund raising for projects were all well supported because people cared and felt appreciated by the club. Sadly those days are gone. The manager / owner has not spoken to the remaining loyal supporters all season. How can the club expect to recover / grow the crowd base unless they reach out to the community? As I've said before it's easy to lose loyal customers but difficult to win them back.

The Manager hasn't spoken to the supporters for all of this season, and most of the back end of the last when, from around December, when we were again out of every competition, and he stated that there would now be concentration on building a squad for the following season!!

Well, that worked out well didn't it? 60+ players last season and 40+ players already this season??

The truth is that no one ever believed anything that was said. It was always someone else's fault!!
AND NOTHING CHANGED!!!

Sadly, I can't envisage a time when it ever will change, or if anyone in authority has the ability to do it!!

Failure is a human faculty, that we have all occasioned at times.
Consistent failure is inexcusable.

Not recognising failure, or correcting it, is a dereliction of duty of Ownership/Directorship/Management!
