Two Out, One in   Message 47388Wed, 12 September 2018 09:45  Go to next message

Louis out (promotion at work).

Jeacock out (Wasn't playing so has joined Thatcham)

Atkinson in from Basingstoke. I note that we were given the chance to sign him. Presumably another player being touted about by an agent.

I said he would be gone by Christmas so I was right on that score. He has said before that he is not happy unless he is playing which is fair enough. Warming the bench whilst Perry came straight back in on Saturday did make me review the predicted departure date but even I didn't reckon it would be this early. Oh well. Make sure that door is well oiled!

Given the Club's record on the stability of the playing squad it would be easy to be cynical.

But these moves make sense. We wouldn't have known 5 weeks ago that Perry was going to become available, while it's become clear that Jeacock was not going to be a regular starter.

I'm a little surprised though that there's been no mention of Enver-Marum.

And the manager is quite right in saying that the squad does need some more trimming. We have a lot of players at the moment and a fair number are not getting much game-time, so it would be best for all concerned if the squad is settled down and the players know where they stand.

Just realised, this means all four of our marquee signings from the announcement in May have gone (Pidgeley, Salmon, Jeacock and Louis). I do wonder whether the club gets much interest in player sponsorship with a revolving door this fast.

Those 'marquee' signings, I never quite know where that term comes from! I thought a marquee was a big tent, but however, were all announced around the time of the Club's new season ticket offer!!

Now I'm a cynical old s**, but that just shouts out spin to me, and I think most others.

Bearing in mind the recent seasons turn over of players, I fully understand why player sponsorship is not taken up!!

Pidge wasn't around, or unavailable, for most, maybe all, of the psf's, reasons for which are now sadly apparent.

Salmon jumped ship after just two days.

Jeacock stayed but was very much on the fringe, for a highly rated 'Marquee' signing

And Louis was, as most expected, a short term fix, as he has been at so many other Clubs in his career, and that didn't work out either.

So maybe there is a problem in the recruiting, vetting and commitment department for future players!

I expect we will be told it's all down to budget!!, but it can't be solely that surely??

That budget would have been helped out with £6000 for winning last nights game and a very good chance of a further £9000 in the next round and then who knows.

We do have a wonderful knack of shooting ourselves in the foot don't we??

I thought things like last night only happened on a Sunday morning!!

Until things are put right on the playing field, the Club will continue to just rumble along, despite the great work being done behind the scenes to keep us afloat!

Answers on how to put it right on a postcard please.

Clearly Enver-Marum has gone after being played out of position / lack of effort after securing a deal.

Any ideas on Cullen?

I'm very much hoping that Callum hasn't been hit by the revolving door on his way out. A good young player with plenty of potential.

Both the Connors are listed in the Basingstoke programme for tomorrow, numbers 9 & 10. Perry at 12

What's on the programme doesn't always mean anything though!!

Think Cullen has been on his hols. Not sure when he's back.
Enver-Marum is about as likely to return as Vic Searle.

Can I just point out that the team in away programmes is just an educated guess by the fixtures secretary and is in no way an official squad for the match.

Phil Martin, Fixtures secretary.

So supporters have to wait until just before kick off to find out what team we are putting out, as usual??

Err... no actually!
It's called communication with supporters.

It looks like a first team game, and should be, but no one has any clue as to if it is??

Maybe something on the lines of this would help:

"Tomorrow we go to Basingstoke in the HSC. We have a fairly fit squad, with the exception of ??? who had a knock from Saturday and will miss out, and to cover this we have ??? on a short term loan from ???, and ??? joins us on a joint registration term from ???

Mickey ??? serves the last day of his three match suspension.

On the outgoing side, Charlie ?? has found it difficult to retain a regular position, and has asked to be released, which we are sorry to hear, but happy to help him progress further.

16 year old Michael has been loaned out to ??? to gain some experience, and we are also currently looking to accrue a further goalkeeper, in light of recent events, which have left us short in that department.

Get behind the lads and enjoy the game."

Basic information, without giving too much away to opposition, but something supporters can latch on to.

The main comment I hear on a matchday, is who's playing today then? or who's the 7? Where's so and so?

You can't expect supporters to get enthused, when they don't know what to expect from game to game!!

Has Cullen gone?

And who is Moanda?

Earlier today someone said Cullen was on holiday. Edit: I see he's not on the squad list anymore.

Moanda is I think the guy who appeared in the squad photo and for whom we were awaiting international clearance for. He seems to be ungoogleable.

When I searched for Moanda, Adoo-Peters popped up. What happened to him?

This is what I am talking about!!
Three questions there for starters!!

It's why fans get frustrated!!!!!

Actually it's why there are fewer and fewer fans. The owner of this Club has an extraordinary flat learning curve. Maybe he needs to stop listening to bad advice.

None so deaf as those that don't want to hear Nigel!!

It's one of the reasons I didn't buy a season ticket this season!!

Maybe it's time we all stood back and just let them get on with it, and accept it's never going to change!

Hopefully I will be around to help pick up the pieces in the future!

I'm off the forum for now, and will just watch the football, as and when I can!

Good luck all!!

I will still be at most of the home games Rich, and supporting whoever turns out in a Boro shirt.
It's not their fault after all, and I will continue to help with FaST's fund raising!

Who knows, we may need FaST's organisation in the future!!

I'm just not going to go on banging my head against the wall with my thoughts and suggestions over the way the Club/Team is being run!

I have come to concede that nothing we say, do, or suggest is going to make the slightest difference, so why bother, life is too short!

Everything at the Club, no matter what is intimated, is done as one person decides, and that is how it will live or die!!

Lets just hope we are all around to pick up the pieces when the inevitable happens!!

For now, I will view the Forum, but not comment.

See you at the next game.

Bob - Totally respect that.

Look forward to seeing you in the stand...

Thanks for continuing to support the Club, like you have always done.

The work, effort, personal money and commitment that people like you and my Dad (and many others that I globally acknowledge here) have put in over the years to improve the ground, supporters experience and success on the field is admirable.

You guys have Cherrywood dirt under your fingernails; some others just drive Range Rovers...
