What a horrible game of football that was, until the last 10 mins or so, when we certainly looked a bit more lively, and the chances came, but went!

Merthyr were the usual, in your face, ugly side that they have always been, but strong as they are , fall like fairies at the slight breeze, and the Officials fell for it time and time again!!

The 3 actually had high fives with his mates and punched the air, when he fell under a challenge from Fernandes which earned him his second yellow (red).
He then beamed at the bench, Ronaldo style!!!

Plus, four minutes of added??, after all that went on through the game?? just where do these officials come from??

Agreed we didn't play well, and I can accept defeat, but not by being conned!!!

Absolute shocker: Merthyr had one plan of crowd-out Fernandes and get him to retaliate with ankle biting and constant fouling, which succeeded with the early yellow and the later red.

With Fernandes being bottled-up by Merthyr we had no real outlet and lacked the wit and where-with-all to come-up with a plan b.

The result was as dire as Bob had written... We were suckered by a team who offered nothing positive just negatives, who scored a scrappy goal from a game of uncontested head tennis. Oh and I think that penalty is still rising as I type this it really was that bad!

Yes, forgot to mention the pen!!

Player started digging on the penalty spot, and teeing the ball up, rugby style, successfully gaining a three points conversion through the trees in Moor Road, absolute classic!!!

Mind you staring at big Pidgley from twelve yards must scare the S**t out of you anyway!!!

I had hoped that we had learned from the last two Merthyr matches. (A red card for us, together with several yellow cards for both sides.)
Obviously not judging by today's performance!
We need to be able to deal with niggly teams and not retaliate or argue with the refs even if they have been conned by the opposition.
The last two games will have shown other teams a way of 'out-gaming' us on the park especially if we lose discipline.
Come on Boro we are better than this.

I always wondered what happened to Barry from Eastenders... Seems he's pretending to be a ref at Southern Prem level.

I'm not interested in Merthyr's gaming. I am interested why we fell for every trick in the non-League book. I'm also interested why we fielded a decent line-up and made them look like a badly organised Sunday League team that was recovering from a heavy night out. Perhaps management would like to think about that? I do hope they don't blame the officials. That would be a massive cop out that would leave us fans to draw our own conclusions.

Nigel, we have been asking that question for around four years now??

I don't think the answers will be forthcoming anytime soon!!

Non league book.. a manager at level will look for a sporting advantage you can gain from the opposition.. if a player can be wound up it will be known.. maybe time to grow up and realise this happens in the game and as an old player a young player is easy to wind up and get yourself an easy afternoon

Well, according to Rees on Twitter we were unlucky.

My first game of the season today and that was absolutely atrocious. No shots on target, no midfield, no cohesion, no way we deserved anything.

That said, Merthyr were disgraceful cheats and the officials didn't seem to even be watching the game (the ref had the mobility and skill-set of Eddie Yeats). No excuses though. Nigel's mentioned it before, but until you see a team lining up without any presence or cover in central midfield, you don't believe any manager would do it.

But of course, Spencer isn't a real manager.

While Fernandes is clearly our best player if he's a) going to get caught in possession every time due to not passing the ball and b) naively play into the hands of the Merthyr scum by getting wound up and sent off, he's not going to succeed at this level.

On the plus side, nice sunny day, the pen that ended up in another post code was funny and we're not looking like losing by 6 or 7 to opposition like that, as we were last season.

But until we have a Steve Laidler type doing the simple things like joining defence up with attack, punting it to the wings or the big centre-forwards and hoping isn't going to take us anywhere near the play offs.

I'll go over it again for you Spencer...

We have 11 on each side and the idea is that we try to score one more than each other. Simples.

One manager is dressed for football and ready to ably instruct his team, the other is dressed for the office and ready for instructing his laptop.
