A good workout tonight against a Woking squad team.

There were several signs that a team unit is emerging from the merry-go-round of the last seven months. We played good stuff early on, but the withdrawal through injury of A Trialist (6), playing at centre back, upset our shape and we struggled to recover from that setback.

Unless someone steps up to the plate very soon, the key defensive central midfield position will continue to be a problem area. Every decent team we played last season had this position nailed down and if we have hopes of being successful this year then we must do likewise. None of the various candidates on view tonight were convincing I'm afraid. Still, the Conference clubs will be ditching their trialists this week so who knows?

It was disappointing to see some daft tackles flying in (this was a friendly, right?) and we'll soon find out if the ref follows up the yellow cards he rightly dished out.

Ten days to go and we aren't there yet. Fair enough, considering Farnborough prefer playing 52-card-pick-up each summer to having a settled squad. There's still time to smoothe off some of the rough edges before we face Wimborne on the 11th. The raw ingredients are there for us to be pretty competitive; as ever it'll be down to the management team to produce the right mix.

Spot on (as always) on your assessment Nigel, although am less optimistic about this present squad of players. Boro were playing Woking's second string who completely dominated the play. So depressing to see the ball being hoofed up for the forwards to try and do something with. Unless the manager can find that defensive midfield player and another to link up with the forwards, Boro will struggle big time.

Pretty accurate summing up, but even a Woking 'squad' is probably better than 90% of the teams we will be meeting this season, and they were at least half a yard quicker to every situation and close down.

I thought we looked as if we, at least, wanted to play, but lost our way a bit.

Second half, again, like last Saturday, we looked better when Barton and Rhule picked up the midfield, so I would definitely start with them for the next two Saturdays against 'slightly' lesser opponents than Woking.

If?? we can secure another CB to partner Pepera, who I think has had two excellent games, then we could release Oseni to CMF where he would be far more effective in my opinion, then what do I know??

Still ten days to the real stuff, so who knows what can happen.

No need to grease the revolving door yet!!!

In terms of CBs, I thought Trialist 19 did well enough.

Pidgeley hasn't been involved in the last 2 games so maybe time to break out the WD40

I wasn't at the Hampton game, but my understanding is that Pidgeley (who had been named as a starter in the teamsheet) didn't feel well during the warm up and so didn't take part.

Fair enough.

Yes, Roger Pierce said he was struggling with an extremely heavy cold, so to avoid spreading it amongst the players he was advised to go home. Still struggling for the Woking game apparently.
Lets hope it's cleared up by Saturday.
