Poor fare on view tonight. The absense of several senior players on their hols contributed to a listless, shapeless performance and Spelthorne were well worth the draw (a good setup there, by the way, and the playing surface was in fine nick).

The key issues were hogging the ball when a pass was on and not taking responsibility for tracking runs and marking oppo players. It's a team sport guys.

I won't say who the best player on view was, but I hope Farnborough give him a trial (he plays in a position where we do not have an established player).

In the meantime, the search for a holding midfielder and a decent centre half continues.

NB: Spencer fans will be disappointed to learn he is still on his hols and so couldn't greet them in person tonight.

With SD and JR away, who was in charge?

So, with that many players and management missing/unavailable, just what was the purpose of this game, or was it an Academy fixture?

Some players were tried in different positions; one tried out the holding midfielder role but that didn't work out so well, in my opinion.

A number of trialists were given a go, including lads who'd featured against Farnham and Westfield. A couple did well last night - better than some players already signed up - but we were playing a mid-table Combined Counties team, so the real tests will start on Saturday.

The squad was topped up with some academy players - one made only a brief appearance as a 2H sub and was hauled off sharpish when he forgot it was a friendly.
