Old players   Message 45866Sun, 11 February 2018 12:20  Go to next message

Saw Jamie Whisken's Poole lose to Josh Huggins' Havant yesterday.

Standard of National South so much higher than our league. Can't see us returning any time soon.

Wouldn't worry Mickey, we have to be good enough to get out of this league

In happier news, Paul Harkness and his soccer academy get a full page in the NLP!

I only hope they have a dinner plate to serve the ball up to him on. Just about the laziest player I have ever seen turn out for us.

Agreed, but how is it he seems to do well everywhere else? This from Pitchero:

He signed for Farnborough in October 2014, moving to St Albans City at the end of the season for an undisclosed fee, scoring 18 league goals in his first season and 20 league goals in the 2016/17 season for the Saints.

He moved to Chelmsford City in March 2017 to help the Essex club with their play-off push, scoring 9 goals in ten games.

In June 2017, Theophanous signed for ambitious Bostik League Premier side Billericay Town, scoring over 15 goals in the first half of the season before going out on loan to Kingstonian in January where he scored 3 goals in his first two matches.

Pure and simply put he is a finisher: Give it to him in the box and he sticks it in, like Michael Owen or Jamie Cureton... He is 1 dimensional in that he needs to have a good winger (or 2) to give him the ammunition as he cannot create anything himself, but if you play to his strengths then he will give you the desired return... We did not play to his strengths as hoofing a ball up to him is not how he plays!

Only Bradley Bubb could top that.
Plying his trade now for Wealdstone FC he scored a hat trick at Billericay yesterday.

I see also that Richard Peniket scored in the 90th minute to earn Gateshead a draw at Leyton Orient.

How many of you remember the night a young 19 year old at Keys Park, Hednesford scored a hat trick against us? We tried to sign him not long after the game but the travelling at the time was too much for him. Elliot Durrell was his name and he is currently playing for Macclesfield Town. A big article today in the centre pages of the NLP about him. A five star player!

Osei Sankhofa was on 5Live earlier today speaking very eloquently about racism in football in his capacity as one of the representatives of the 'Kick it Out' campaign.

I've been trying to forget him! Goodness, that was the ultimate doomed "marquee" signing when narcissism completely overtook financial prudence and common sense.

All power to him. Although football has, mostly, cleaned up its act, this stuff still lingers at some grounds and, more importantly, behind the scenes. Osei is absolutely right to call it out. There is still work to be done.
