4 - 2 to the lunatic fringe Message 45785 | Sat, 03 February 2018 21:59 |
What started out as an excellent game of football, with a well supported, and well behaved, away following, turned in to farce today when the smoke bombs started raining down on to the pitch and disrupting play.
Yes stewarding could, and should, have been a bit better, and I thought they did handle it well when the situations arose!!
My thoughts however are that (a) they shouldn't have been brought in to the ground in the first place, and (b) what moron even thinks about throwing them on to the pitch?
Yes I totally agree that the Boro player was totally out of order in throwing it back in to the crowd, and got a red card for it, which didn't help at all!!
These actions are not funny, or clever, and I wouldn't like to be a keeper or defender having to play with the fear of a howitzer flying round his ears at any time!!
Totally unsettling and unnecessary, and a very good game disintegrated after the last incident.
Fair play to the decent Hereford supporters for dobbing in the culprits, and I hope the Club take the required banning actions.
Farnborough tried to be fair with the away travellers and not segregate the game, and in truth most that I spoke to were great fans and we had loads of good, but friendly, banter, as it should be.
Should the Clubs meet again in the future, then it may well come to segregation, body searches and all that entails, and bad feeling, which no one wants.
My suggestion to Hereford FC is that it would appear these idiots are known to you and that you must take the appropriate actions as you progress upwards, or the consequences may deem that you do not progress at all, and that would be a great shame for a great club.
Well played on your win, and I hope you get the rewards you deserve at the end of the season, but get rid of your rubbish first!!!!

I'm very curious about the buckets of sand that were ready at each end of the pitch to stop those smoke bombs. Such a convenient coincidence!

Very effective weren't they?
I guess there was some sort of pre warning that these idiots turn up at Hereford games now and then, which backs up what I said that Hereford F.C. do appear to know about them!
Lets hope they can sort them out, for their sake!!
The Home Club, if advised of such, then has to make the decision to do a stop and search at the turnstiles, or not, and cause delays and aggrevation to the vast majority of visiting supporters, and which I repeat 99.999% of whom were perfectly well behaved and passionate supporters!
It's the loonys that spoil it for the rest.

A Hereford fan on Twitter said that it often happens at away games they go to (throwing flares on the pitch). It was shaping up to be a good contest before our player retaliated and got sent off. A shame and Coles scoring a good goal to make it 2-3 with 10 men shows that we could well have got something and deservedly so if we had 11 men.

Statement from Hereford FC
Club Statement About Flares At Farnborough
Hereford FC have released the following statement:
Hereford FC club officials have confirmed they are investigating incidents at Farnborough yesterday that saw a small number of flares (smoke grenades) thrown onto the field of play, seemingly from areas in the ground where Bulls fans were located.
The club will not tolerate this type of behaviour from any of its supporters and when the individuals responsible are identified they will be dealt with severely.
Match officials at the game advised our management team that the game was close to being abandoned and clearly the flares are not only a danger to supporters at the game, the actions of tiny number of individuals could also have a negative impact on the efforts of the players on the field.
This is in addition to any post-match punishment the club might face from the football authorities.
If anyone has information about the individual or individuals involved in the incidents with the flares yesterday, please make contact with the club as soon as possible. Anyone who believes it is sensible to enter a football stadium with a flare and throw it onto the field of play is not welcome to associate themselves with Hereford FC. The club has already been made aware of names and images circulating on social media which is being looked into but would still ask anyone with further information to contact us at gm@herefordfc.co.uk.
The club would, however, like to take this opportunity to thank the vast majority of its fans for the fantastic support they offered the team once again yesterday. As usual, the vocal encouragement was magnificent and it made a real difference once again.
Finally, club officials would also like to thank Farnborough for the excellent welcome that was extended to everyone associated with the Bulls yesterday it is hoped that the actions of one or two mindless idiots did not overshadow what was an enjoyable afternoon and an exciting game of football.

We were being prepared for flares etc in the ground, hence the buckets, I was also the nominated person to act , if arose, police were also attending the match for any troubles that might have occurred. The culprit was caught in the end and taken away by police, the whole operation of safety stewards etc was a huge success, personally down to Paul Sampson our own safety steward. Hereford supporters went away feeling that they had been fairly treated by us, and that we have been one of the best clubs they've visited. They were very angry at there own supporter who was throwing the flares

Well done Hereford F.C. and a good response.
I wish you well in finding the culprits.

I think we have all been around enough to know that clubs such as Hereford will always have people who just cannot control themselves.
When we went to Hereford we were waiting around after the game when some idiot started having a go at a couple of the people with us for no reason. It was stopped by a Hereford fan telling the idiot to pack it in and stop being a prat.
It is down to the decent fans to give the info to stop the idiots spoiling it for all the rest of us. I do feel sorry for your player who I am sure realises his actions were stupid and will serve his ban for doing that. I hope the idiot(s) that threw them on get a far longer ban.

The one positive thing for Hereford that has come out of this is the attitude and responsibility of their real supporters in taking ownership of what happened. They are the ones who 'shopped' the culprits rather than allowing them to blend in to the crowd.
As a group of supporters Hereford will be all-too aware of the potential issues that will affect them should they be labelled as 'problem' fans due to the actions of a couple of idiots so its great they were able to nip things in the bud, as I suspect they do not want to become a 'Luton' and how their fans were always treated when in the conference because of a few idiots that were intent on giving it the 'big I am' everywhere they went and insisting on causing problems.
