There is one team out there who are playing the ball around, running at the opposition and working possession into chances... and the other team is Farnborough.

We seem to be content just to sit back and let Hartley come at us. What's at stake is motivation enough for them: A home tie against Bromley which will be the biggest game in their history.

We have had our chances, with one effort from Curo rolling along the line before going out, so we are by no means outclassed and their goal was a parried save that was pinbaling around in the box before it was driven home.

Maybe the 120 mins on Saturday is showing and the fact Hartley has no game.

Finger's crossed for a second half with some conviction from us.

Pace Passion Pride
Vs
Piss Poor Performance

Two very nice free kicks from Perry that were well saved and an effort from Josh that also brought out the best from their keeper.

Other than that - nothing...

We looked apologetic when we equalised and it certainly didn't spark an 'all guns blazing' reaction from the team to go for the equaliser.

Christ know's what the brief from Spencer was tonight....?

Well played HW - apart from the comical time wasting you beat us fair and square.

I concur... Hartley wanted it more from the first whistle to the last and deserved the win.

Good luck to them taking on Bromley - I can see them getting a prize scalp if they play like they did tonight, although they will need to be more clinical with their shooting!

I'm not sure who wanted it more. What I am sure of is that one team went into the game looking knackered after 120 minutes with no substitutions on Saturday.

That's not to take anything away from Hartley Wintney. They were well drilled and played some good stuff and, despite the play acting that was easily a match for the 90s Runcorn side in the Conference, were worth the win.

So, we move back to the League, where the Eternal Leader's options are somewhat broader than our paper-thin FA Trophy squad. We'll soon find out if those options make the difference.

Eternal Leader indeed.

In a parallel universe we have a chairman who sees the great job the HW management team have done with limited resources and poaches them to bring increased success to a bigger club in the local area...

What I would like to know, (as well as I suspect others) is what is Spencer's plan / ambition going forward from here. I have to admit I could not be bothered to turn up and watch last night's game, which would have been unthinkable in past seasons. Now we all know Spencer will not be sacking himself as manager anytime soon, but it would be nice to have some thoughts from him as to where he wants the club to go from here. There is no doubt that many things have greatly improved in the last couple of seasons, such as the stadium facility etc,but I believe the club need to do more to attract back previous regulars and new supporters. The obvious way of doing this is of course being successful on the pitch, but let's be honest the present team is not good enough to challenge at the top and with only one team being relegated this season I don't see Boro being that team.
Now I fully accept and believe it is essential (bearing in mind our recent past) that the club need to keep the finances under control and only spend what it can afford, but Spencer cannot hide behind this all the time. The majority of teams and clubs in this league I suspect have similar financial constraints yet still remain competitive on the field. For several weeks it has been clear to all that we need a big centre half, yet Spencer continues to think both Keith and Josh can play there. Stats proof otherwise. If it means someone needs to be released to bring in a new defender it should be done, because regularly letting in the usual three goals a game is not good team management.

Several teams in this league don't have any playing budget whatsoever (Gosport, Merthyr, Dunstable, Dorchester?). For others, e.g. Basingstoke, it's effectively expenses and nowt else.

Spencer is still working on assembling a competitive first eleven. But, as you say, we're not making the playoffs or getting relegated, so our season is effectively already over. In November. Ho hum.

City Gent wroteThe majority of teams and clubs in this league I suspect have similar financial constraints yet still remain competitive on the field.

Whilst I agree with everything that is written in a, well constructed article, there is one thing that Farnborough has to it's detriment, at this time, that is the actual stadium!!

It is without doubt the best stadium in this League, and probably a fair few Clubs in the League above, but it costs a fortune to maintain and upkeep, and I'm sure Kevin can supply chapter an verse on that one.

Because it is of a certain excellent standard, it comes under much a higher level of public safety standard checks, than most others in our League, which cost thousands a year to achieve, or we would not be able to play football at any level!!

It also requires a certain number of stewards per match regardless of attendance figures, and without them we would, again, not be able to play matches!!, and we should be grateful to Knights for attending to that.

The last barrier strength test for instance, 18 yard area, cost, I believe around £6000, and it HAS to be carried out every two years!!Kevin again can confirm I'm sure.

Floodlight bulb replacements require a cherry picker, which is expensive to hire, and because of position of pylons, it needs to run on part of the pitch. This requires special boarding and extra cost, which is why there is a wait until four or five need changing before doing it. Should we get to a higher League light lux readings would have to be higher and would require almost instant change when blown.

These are only two of the many requirements that are needed because of the excellent standard of the stadium, which are an unseen cost to the Club that cannot be used towards the playing budget.

Other Clubs do not have these outgoings and, with similar incomes to ourselves, can use there finances in a more direct fashion, i.e. player budgets.

So, it's a rock and a hard place situation. Do we want good facilities, or a good team?
Good facilities do help to attract better players, and I believe we do have, and have had, many decent players over the years.
The finances to keep them is the difficult job for the Board to juggle.

The Management and coaching of those players, however, has been a much discussed subject on this forum for many years, and is unlikely to change in the near future!!

We can only ask the questions, support the lads, and help wherever we can, whether it's buying a a season ticket, golden goal, 50/50 ticket or supporting the boost the budget collection via FaST, or actually joining the Supporters Trust.

To walk away, or not bother to turn up!! just doesn't help anyone!!

We have a pretty reasonable standard of football, and STILL at a reasonable cost, compared with the mega rich Clubs and superstars of the 'plastic League', so lets just relax and enjoy it eh??

Never thought I would say this but 'Its only a game of football'

COME ON YOU YELLOWWSSAA!!

Yes bob , your correct in what you say, as we're a stadium, we have to maintain every aspect of the club inside out, regular safety checks, daily maintenance from a good bunch of volunteers, of which costs a lot of money, gas, electric and water alone is over £1500 a month, the stewards tho from Knights, we still have to pay for , of which is just under £200 per game , so a budget is set and maintained. If this isn't followed the club would end up back in debt, so then what's the point of running a club

Thanks Kev. The harsh, unseen, realities and costs of running a football Club, at any level, are the things that most people don't realise or understand!

Farnborough supporters, more than most, should surely appreciate that fact?

Let's be grateful that there still is a Farnborough Football Club thanks to those, like yourself, that put in the selfless unpaid hours.

Kev,
Have the club designated the £7,250 trophy winnings for anything specific? Or is it just going back into the general ground maintenance pot?
