NLP today   Message 44647Sun, 12 November 2017 17:51  Go to next message

No Boro report...grrr!

But an editorial - left hand page towards the front - totally about Dean Austin and the s*** he had to endure from above when manager.

He is now apparently Reading's number 2 (no lavatorial jokes, please), so who knows where we might have gone had he stayed in charge?

Worth browsing if you're in a newsagent today/tomorrow.

Used to love the Fans Forums while Dean was with us, he always gave a straight from the hip answer to any questions, most of them interspersed with the F word.
After he left the club he went back to Southend and coaching their reserves. He brought a team from Southend to us for a pre season friendly, and still had his 'natural charm and way with words.'
The Halifax game will stay long in the memory of us fortunate to be at the game. I believe that Dean is currently at Northampton Town.

Correct, Brian - the mistake was in the original article and I didn't know any better!

When you think of some of the clowns we have suffered since...

Folowing item on this period in our history;
Last Updated: Friday, 25 February, 2005, 15:40 GMT

Sillett is new Farnborough boss.

Neil Sillett has taken over as Farnborough's new manager, replacing Dean Austin who has been sacked.

Sillett, the son of former Coventry manager John, has given up his job as a Fifa-licensed agent to land the job.

He will be assisted by ex-Bristol Rovers boss Garry Thompson, who becomes first team coach.

"I have been really pleased with the players' reaction and they are behind what we are going to do," Sillett told BBC Southern Counties Radio.

"There's a lot of negativity around at the moment, but we're going to be as positive as we can."

Before becoming an agent, Sillett had spells as physiotherapist at Portsmouth and Derby County.
He takes charge of Boro for the first time on Saturday, when they host Leigh RMI - the Conference's bottom club - at Cherrywood Road.

The Hampshire side's last victory came at Leigh on 27 November - but since then, they have been on a run of 14 league and cup games without a win which has left them third from bottom of the Conference.

Ex-Tottenham defender Austin had originally arrived at Farnborough as director of football in June 2004, taking over as manager the following month.

But he admitted: "Despite what I've had to take, I have enjoyed my time there.

"The fans have been unbelieveable towards me. I have worked with some great people. They don't deserve what is going on at the moment.

"We [Austin and former chairman Tony Theo] worked very hard in the first six weeks to get the infrastructure in place.

"But the foundations were laid, and someone else has come in and knocked those foundations down.

"There is a massive cloud of negativity over the club, there is no harmony."
