Banbury   Message 44645Sun, 12 November 2017 17:30  Go to next message

Interesting to note yesterday that Banbury turned out with three players numbered 13, 14 and 20 on their shirts from kick off yesterday, and there wasn't No.2 anywhere on the team list.

Not that it made any real difference, and it's obviously squad numbering, but I wasn't sure that it was allowed at this level, similar to names on shirts!

Not making a big issue of it, but just curious that's all!

Don't know if this answers your question, Bob, but...

Thanks Mickey.

Yes I understand the principal, and I applaud them for the commercial efforts.

Haven't seen any other Club at this level doing it that's all.

Maybe Kevin can enlighten?

Mind you if we were doing it I dread to think what numbers we would reach!!

Do you remember, Bob, in the days of the red check shirts (Croatia-style) we used to send players out with the names taped over? Couldn't afford new shirts!

Bob. The rules simply state that shirts must be numbered 1 to 20 and a team sheet must be submitted to the referee listing the corresponding names and numbers of the starting line-up and any substitutes name and numbers.

However, their sectetary told me they had already encountered a couple of referees that did not share their interpretation of the wording.

Names aren't allowed on shirts? Why on earth not? If a club can afford the expense, why not allow it? It looks much more professional.

Not sure why it is, but I don't think names are allowed on shirts below National main! Could be wrong.
