Dorchester Town   Message 43912Wed, 13 September 2017 18:22  Go to next message

I wonder if any consideration been given to re-arranging one of our midweek league games against Dorchester for this Saturday? Neither of us have a game...for FA Cup related reasons :-(

It strikes me as being a good idea to get as many early season Saturday games in as possible due to the likelihood of: better weather; better player availability (vs midweek); ease of travel (vs midweek); bigger crowds (vs midweek) etc. Additionally, given our last two results, our injury crisis would appear to be less of an issue.

Having a free week gives the walking wounded a chance to get fit so i guess thats why we haven't arranged anything

Mark, It was considered and Dorchester did get in touch but at the time we didn't think players would be back to full fitness, and we didn't have some of the shorter term players which are currently bolstering the squad. By the time we realised we were actually in reasonable shape, it was too late for Dorchester to make arrangements.

So, the financial side of things counts for nothing?

Both Dorchester games are midweek, when attendances collapse if the Champions League is on telly. And yes, our home game is a Champions League week.

So, on Wednesday, 27th September, when we host Dorchester, we'll be competing against Atletico Madrid v Chelsea, Anderlecht v Celtic and CSKA Moscow V Man Utd.

I wouldn't be printing many programmes or hiring additional staff to cover the bar .....

I'd rather watch Farnborough than that pretentious tournament any day of the week.

Unfortunately, given previous attendances when home games clash with Champions League nights (one fell as low as 143 IIRC), yours is a minority opinion.

Yeah, a lot of glory supporters who don't realise or don't care that top level football is corrupt, elitist, greed-driven and 90% of teams are just there to make up the numbers in Farnborough. And everywhere else.
