Bit harsh! Perfectly good keeper who actually cared about playing for the club.

The contracts may include get-out clauses where if a more senior club comes in for a player then Farnborough won't stand in the player's way if they choose to move. Such a clause would have been included as a trade off against that player's contracted wages being affordable in terms of our budget.

If my guess is true, I don't have a problem with it. A footballer's career is short and if a player believes the grass is greener elsewhere then so be it. We are not in a position to offer gold-plated wage packets and, to me, these moves confirm the Club is not doing silly things on the playing budget front. Good!

Was there any sign of Curtis on Saturday? While at this level losing players might be a normal and unavoidable situation, losing three key players now wouldn't be an ideal start to the new season.

Apparently Curtis will be the next to leave. I spoke to a very well respected manager in our league at the weekend and he told me that there was no way Curtis was playing for us this season. I must stress that this is only hearsay.

Read on Twitter that Pat Cox might be going/gone. Anyone confirm? Or has someone just put two and two together and made five?

Not good. Back to the days of squad turnover - by current reckoning we've got:

Upward (not first choice, I'd assume?)

Allen
Emmerson
Hutchings
Oyenuga
Smith

Barton
Ciardini
Fearn
Huggins

Calcutt
Coles

No doubting Calcutt and Smith are good signings but that's looking a bit thin.

There's a disagreement over the terms of the contract signed last season.

So 1st Donnelly then Zaki, Coxy in dispute with club, Curtis rumoured to be in talks with Slough, Huggins not yet confirmed as signed, no news on Allen as far as i know add that to Pearce,Bufton,Goater and Cureton that's potentially 10 players we have to replace. Ok we have a few weeks yet but i am starting to worry a little

I think you have every right to worry. Our squad is currently much weaker than last season & we're about to enter a much tougher league. The players on trial at fleet don't feel me with confidence either. The only trial player who looked half decent was the big guy (number 2 i think) in the 2nd half

Plenty of water to flow under the bridge yet. A lot of players currently trialing at higher levels will filter down the pyramid in the coming weeks.

Regarding last Saturday, the Club did their bit by giving the trialists a go. Nearly all showed there and then that there's no need to consider them any further, apart from, possibly, the second half No. 2 and the first half no. 10.

Love that the "Farnborough (from)" squad list in the match preview just published lists exactly eleven players. Spoilt for choice! Time to play "guess the trialist" I suppose.

Is John Oyenuga confirmed?

I'll be very happy if he is, but the last I read on here somewhere was a possibility of him going to the USA for studies (IIRC).

Zaki Oualah's stay in Algeria must have been a short one.

He played for Basingstoke this afternoon:-

If his move to Algeria fell through, I wonder why Zaki would not
want to return to Boro rather than trial at Basingstoke?. Assume it is not due to terms offered. Whatever the reason I hope Boro have a regular keeper next season.

Bob, perhaps that's a bit harsh. He had a lot of abuse thrown his way when in the Boro shirt, some of which I think not justified. However he scored some good goals and is skillful.

Yes maybe a bit harsh, but without doubt the most frustrating player ever to have worn a Boro shirt!!

The skill and ability to tear any defence apart, when he had the right head on, but also the sullen sulks and tantrums of a fourteen year old schoolboy when things didn't go quite so well!

Trouble is you never knew which one you were going to get on a match day, and that is never good for the team as a whole.

Probably explains why he hasn't progressed too far.

Could say, I suppose, that it's the Manager/coaches job to bring it out of him, but he had three spells at the Club, and it still didn't work out.

Where the fault for that is, is open for discussion!

In case anyone hadn't guessed, Bob is talking about Dan Bennett.

I well remember Nic giving him an earful at Maidenhead some seasons ago when he insisted on beating his fullback umpteen times instead of crossing for a certain goal!

Going back to Farnborough Town days, Tony Calvert would have been a strong contender.

And now we've cancelled the Whyteleafe game because we don't have enough players.

The Club's statement makes sense to me:-
http://www.farnboroughfc.co.uk/2017/whyteleafe-friendly-call ed-off/

It's pointless to risk exacerbating injuries in pre-season and if the Academy kids aren't ready yet, then that's that. I also support the decision to not churn through a load of triallists; something that has been disruptive when tried before. The management team knows the parts of the squad that need to be strengthened - the season starts in three weeks and lot can, and probably will, happen between now and then.

I don't have an issue with cancelling the game, for the same reason as you.

I'm concerned that we seem to have a very thin squad and that we've lost, and not yet replaced, key players, particularly ones who had been expected to stay on.

I'm not so naive as to expect a settled squad at this level, but to be well into pre-season with such a small squad won't make preparation for the step up easy.
